Community Managed Natural Regeneration
by Halima Alinoor
Background information
I've been to many communities of pastoralists and farmers too. When it comes to farmers, because they are aware of farming practices and they have agricultural lands, I train them on FMNR which stands for Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration. It is the same concept but a different name, it depends on who am teaching. I've been to Isiolo county to teach them this concept. It's made a huge impact on our environment, some parts of our ecosystem are awakening. Currently, I've been teaching my hometown and the communities neighbouring too, On how this simple but effective way of combating climate change. The drought today has taken soo many of our animals so when I teach my community on alternative livelihood options, at least they get some income to put on the table. Poverty levels are too high, so when the animals that we depend on for everything are taken away by climate change, we have to find a solution. I am CMNR/ FMNR champion.
About
I am a Community Managed Natural Regeneration champion. I've been teaching communities around Marsabit how to manage their environment and ways in which to reduce climate change. I am an environmentalist and I graduated from university in Dec 2019. I used the knowledge and skill I obtained in school to earn my way to being an environment management t.o.t. Currently, I am a consultant and a trainer for World Vision, which sponsors programs where I go to rural areas and teach the communities about climate change awareness, and ways to reduce its effect.
